This photo was taken to demonstrate the macro capabilities of the famous – or infamous – Canon EF-S 18 – 55mm kit lens. It has been called Canon’s best-kept secret for macro photography. Seconded only by actual macro lenses. It has, in my experience, a minimum focusing distance of three inches.
While it typically gets bad publicity, and honestly is not the best performer for other kinds of photography, it is amazing for macro. I recommend it for that reason only!
