Elk In The Great Smoky Mountains

I photographed these elk from the Wagoneer in the very early morning on the way to a trout stream.

Water Birds On Fence

Near the riverwalk. I shot this right before they flew off... there was no sneaking up on these guys!

Smoky Mountains

Here are a few images from the Vault. These were taken in the Smoky Mountains early last year in the Cherokee and Gatlinburg areas. The love the Smokies and hope to get up there this year for some fly fishing!

I love these steps! They are right beside a stream deep in the park! So much buried history up there...

This bridge will never again see motor vehicles.

Thunder Storm On The River

A thunderstorm came up while I was out fishing on the Chattahoochee. So, I shot this with my Motorola Droid.

Flint River At Sunset Part Two

Part two in my Flint River at sunset series. These are a little bit more artistic, with some black and whites.

Flint River At Sunset Part One

This is part one of a series of photographs taken of the Flint River at sunset. As I have written before, I can't get to the Flint River enough! These pictures were taken at Sprewell Bluff National Park after a day of (unsuccessful) fly fishing. It was early Spring.

Harris County "Crick"

A peacefully flowing creek flowing in Harris County, Georgia. Notice the old bridge remains on the bank. I want to fish this creek. It looks really peaceful and, while may not be too productive for fish, it would be very enjoyable to wade I'm sure! And the fishing just might surprise you too!

Phinizy Swamp Nature Park - Augusta, Georgia Part 2

I love the reflection in this one!

I couldn't help but wonder if there were any big bass hiding in the stream that fed the swamp...

Hitting the back half of the park... this is where it got HOT!

Phinizy Swamp Nature Park - Augusta, Georgia

I enjoyed a trip to Phinizy Swamp Nature Park in Augusta, Georgia on a weekend getaway with the family. The first half of the park was very enjoyable and filled with scenic nature and from which most of the pictures came from. The latter half of the park I found less then enjoyable in the hot "not summer yet, but feels like it" sun. The back trails lacked any real tree cover and felt very man-made, exactly the opposite of what made the first half of the park so special.

These old silo's are a relic of the past welcoming you at the main parking lot.

Billie and the boy posing in front of the silo's. She's armed with water to fight the heat! (The water didn't last long!)

Nature is creeping up the side of these silos...

Venturing into the swamp...

Wasps

Wasps residing in Andersonville, Georgia. These guys were very patient and didn't seem to mind too much my sticking a camera in their face.

Pictures Of The Smoky Mountains...

More Smoky Mountain Pictures

A mountain path...

Did You Know?
The wispy, smoke-like fog that hangs over the Smoky Mountains comes from rain and evaporation from trees. On the high peaks of the Smokies, an average of 85 inches of rain falls each year, qualifying these upper elevation areas as temperate rain forests.

Daisies

Wild daisies growing on the Smokey Mountains. Beautiful!

The Smoky Mountains

Earlier this month Walter Mallard, Brian Mallard, and I took a trip to the far blue mountains. Here are just a few pictures from our trip... more to come!

The Smokey Mountains... and a whole lotta sky!

On the Tennessee/North Carolina border. The plaque reads... "FOR THE PERMANENT ENJOYMENT OF THE PEOPLE."

Same place as above... different angle, black and white - and a different day! I like this one a lot.

Growing up through the cracks... and what a view!

Geese on Lake Blackshear. They seemed to be rather camera shy.

Toad From The Chattahoochee

A friend and I were sitting on a rock beside the Chattahoochee when this cute little creature happened to wander out from a hole in the rocks beside us. Of course it had no idea that it was about to be faced with the ultimate torture... being photographed!
